MULTICULTURALISM AND RELIGIOUS PLURALISM: ROMANIAN NAZARENES AS MINORITY-WITHIN-MINORITY IN VOJVODINA
Abstract
In this paper we will examine the position of small religious community of Romanian Nazarenes in Vojvodina in the context of different multicultural theories. Minority religions are very often obliged to dominant political/cultural/ religious discourse. The relationship between state and authentic identities of micro-communities is very often reduced to declarative acceptance only, without any further development. The essentialization of the usual minority identities – ethnic, represents an obstacle in recognizing one different dimension of pluralistic society, dialog and tolerance in multicultural debates.
Key words: multiculturalism, identity politics, minority-within-minority, Neo-Protestants, Romanian Nazarenes.
