Summary

In this essay I give a short overview of the academic discipline Study of Religion (also known as the History of Religion or Science of Religion). I deal with methods, main research areas and most important questions of this discipline. Additionally I deal with the practical contribution of this discipline to the democratic societies. This academic approach is with some smaller differences common to all institutes and departments which are members of the European Association for the History of Religion and International Association for the History of Religion.
