DESECULARIZATION IN SERBIAN ART AND MUSIC

Resume

Desecularization as a sociological phenomenon in Serbia has caused serious changes in the field of art, too. Religion which was forbidden after the II World War, in late eighties started to be a significant field of interest of artist. The works inspired by religion have all the characteristics of the desecularization of the society, in the first place the ones that are concerned with permanent secularization inside of desecularization. Generally speaking, in the art there are two streams of creating religious works: in the first the artist are trying to point out the national values through the religious themes, while in the second the author's aim is to affirm religious values as they are. This resulted with works in fine arts in which the religious inspiration is shown by well known religious symbols, on one hand, or with very free approach to this subject, on the other. The writers dealing with religion in their novels are creating works that could be called "actual political novel". Composers of the second half of the 20th century, following those two mentioned main streams, are creating oeuvres in which they use the sounds of the religious music of the world, as well as the sounds of their national religion – Orthodox Christianity. They mostly write religious music for concert halls, not for the church.

Key words: desecularization, religion, fine arts, literature, religious music, religious inspiration, national.
