Summary
The Relationship Between Theology and Philosophy in the Middle Age
As the mankind has changed trough history, so has the significance of philosophy. It has traveled a long way, from the sublime, over needed, to useful, but regardless of everything it succeeded to maintain! In the middle ages it was under the submission of theology what made it appear less useful and influential. Maybe at the first glance this doesn't appear to be so due to not being admired by the church fathers, but if it wasn't philosophy, neither the theology could have risen so high. Philosophers were condemned and seen as nonbelievers, but the essence of every Christian teaching consists of their knowledge. Philosophy was pushed out of the first view but was never destroyed. How would it be destroyed when their teachings are based on it? And finally, how could it be defended without "philosophical means(tools)"?
Key words: philosophy, theology, classical period, middle ages, faith and reason, renaissance, new age
